Social Media 101

Getting your business out there and in the visual line of people coursing through the internet can be very important to small businesses. I created this business strategy for people who have small business with limited budget. It is also a good tool for the ‘non-savvy’ and those who do not have the time to dedicate to posting routine information about their business.

One of the hardest points to drive home to some of my clients has been their participation in the process of achieving their goals. Visitors do not find you by accident and keep flooding back unless there is something grossly compelling. People go back to Facebook through the day because there is a reward of information. Woot.Com features a very short term deal of the day.

The conversations on Twitter and Facebook never stop — it’s 24/7/365. A brand can’t buy an ad and then call it quits — it has to continue the conversation, engage consumers and really earn that earned media.” – Mashable.Com

Channels to produce the desired results depend on a lot of things: time, budget, motivation. Procrastination is going to kill your message and your story, your event, is very valuable.

One of the larger success stories I have discovered is out of Las Vegas where I recent did a lot of my work, and that is a local food truck called ‘The Slider Truck’. Since 2 of my clients out of Vegas are mobile food vendors they are naturally looking at them as an example of what they want to achieve with social media.

Facebook

In 2010 Facebook was the single most visited web site on the planet. Not simply because of the movie, though I am sure that hard hurt, but this company has found the formula for keeping people riveted within their virtual world.

Some of us remember when almost everyone in America and beyond had an AOL account, because AOL gave us a safe and ‘complete’ web experience that included social media and entertainment. MySpace managed to hold that title Originally from TECH CRUNCH data from Experian Hitwiseafter Friend Finder for about 10 seconds, but now Facebook has blown them out of the water.

According to Hitwise data released today, Facebook.com was the top visited website in the US in 2010, taking up 8.93% of site visits between January and November 2010. Google.com came in second at 7.19%” – Social Networking Watch

Facebook has provided a new tool for business, fan sites, entertainment and more that come from YOU instead of just marketing agencies to create a place for your business and generate activity. You can even easily link your Twitter and a number of other social networking  partners with it so with one update, several sources are updated.

You can also build and construct ads within whatever budget YOU define and pick your audience based on demographic data with such precision that you can speak and share you experience with very detailed selections and that is a huge value. It might take some experimentation to find the results, but with the new “View Insights” option in the tools provided you can see the exact results from your internal and external advertising/networking.

Bottom Line

It is building relationships and building a brand/service people want to experience and tell their friends about. The number one marketing strategy today is getting people talking.
